James “Alan” Burris, 75, of Westminster, MD, died Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Westminster Healthcare Center. Born November 11, 1948, in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late James Elwood Burris and Miriam Esther Matthews Burris. Alan is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jaylene Carney Burris, daughter, Erin Burris Galloway and husband Brent, and granddaughters, Emma Clare and Megan Riley Galloway, of Raleigh, NC, brother Joseph Glenn Burris and wife Patricia Thomas Burris, of Eden, MD, sister, Marie Wharton Burge and husband Brian of Middletown, DE, in-laws who accepted him as family, and numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Ryan Lee Burris, in 2018.
Alan graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park. He worked for over four decades in the healthcare industry and served in a variety of capacities in several professional and service associations. Before retiring, he was the Associate Administrator of the Laboratories of Pathology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions and was an avid collector of Santa figurines and World’s Fair memorabilia.
He loved to cook and bake and arrange floral arrangements for weddings and craft fairs. Alan was an Eagle Scout and had a knack for trivia and puzzles.
